ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation

ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation

The Filberg Heritage Lodge & Park Arboretum is proud to be recognized as a Level I Arboretum through ArbNet – The Interactive Community of Arboreta. This accreditation formally acknowledges Filberg Park as a documented, managed, and publicly accessible arboretum that meets ArbNet’s international standards for collections management, governance, and public engagement.

Achieving ArbNet Level I accreditation reflects a strong foundation in tree stewardship and demonstrates a long-term commitment to the care, documentation, and interpretation of our woody plant collections. This milestone is the result of a collaborative partnership between the Town of Comox and the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association (FHLPA).

What ArbNet Level I Accreditation Represents

What ArbNet Level I Accreditation Represents

ArbNet Level I accreditation confirms that the Filberg Heritage Lodge & Park Arboretum meets the following core criteria:

  • A defined arboretum site with public access
  • A documented collection of trees and woody plants
  • Professional oversight and management
  • An established governance structure
  • Ongoing public education and outreach related to trees and forest ecology

Our tree and woody plant taxa are recorded and monitored using a GIS-based inventory system maintained by the Town of Comox Parks Department, supporting accurate documentation, plant health monitoring, and informed long-term planning. Take a look at the mapping inventory HERE.

Why ArbNet Accreditation Matters

“Receiving Level 1 Arboretum Accreditation from ArbNet is a significant achievement for Filberg Park and a testament to our shared commitment with the Town of Comox to conservation, education, and community engagement. This recognition reflects the hard work of our team and our ongoing efforts to preserve and enhance the Park’s natural heritage for future generations.”
— Linda Trevor, Executive Director, Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association

ArbNet accreditation connects Filberg Park to an international network of arboreta and strengthens our ability to steward this remarkable landscape for the benefit of the community today and for generations to come.
