Heritage Week 2026
Special Events
As part of BC Heritage Week, Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association is pleased to present Threads of Tradition, a special series of demonstrations celebrating traditional textile arts and the artisans who continue these time-honoured practices.
BC Heritage Week takes place from February 16 to 22, 2026, with Filberg hosting activities across two February weekends.
On Saturday and Sunday, February 14 and 15, The Woolgatherers will be in the Gift Shop from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, offering live fibre art demonstrations and showcasing their handcrafted wares. Visitors will have the opportunity to see wool work in progress and learn more about the skills, materials, and traditions behind these creations.
The following weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, February 21 and 22, the Denman and District Lace Club will be set up in the Lodge from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, presenting live demonstrations and a small display of their intricate lace work. Guests are invited to watch these delicate techniques in action and speak directly with members about the history and craftsmanship of lace-making.
Threads of Tradition highlights the cultural significance of textile traditions and the importance of preserving and sharing these skills within our community. We invite visitors of all ages to stop by Filberg Park, explore these demonstrations, and join us in celebrating BC Heritage Week.
Admission to Filberg Park is always free, and the Gift Shop will be open during regular hours. We look forward to welcoming you.
Podcast
Welcome to our podcast, stories of Filberg. This episode is an interview with Melanie Whittall, the youngest granddaughter of Robert Filberg. Robert Filberg worked his way to becoming the president of the Comox Logging and Railway Company, and under his leadership, the company expanded greatly. After his passing, he bequeathed his nine-acre property and the Lodge overlooking Comox Harbour to the Vancouver Foundation. Not wanting to see the property develop into housing, the Town of Comox petitioned the Vancouver Foundation for ownership. In 1979, the Lodge became the property of the Town of Comox and later became a Municipal Heritage site that everyone can still enjoy today.
We hope you enjoy hearing Melanie Whittall’s stories and her experiences growing up and spending her Summers with her grandpa Bob on the Filberg property.
