Weddings and Special Events Frequently Asked Questions
Cancellations: Can my deposit be refunded if I cancel my event or wedding?
Deposits are non-refundable.
Damage/Cleaning deposit refund: When will my deposit be refunded to me?
Each event will be charged a damage/cleaning deposit in advance of their event. Within 30 days of the event, provided Filberg Park is left in the same condition you found it and no damage was incurred or additional rental items had been requested. If there is additional Damage/Cleaning or other charges, they will be deducted from your deposit and the balance will be refunded to you. Your refund deposit cheque will come from Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association.
Decorations: Can I decorate for my ceremony?
Filberg Park is a designated heritage site and is a certified wildlife-friendly habitat through the Canadian Wildlife Federation. It is imperative that we maintain the intended integrity of the grounds, gardens, and heritage designation. The following decorations are not permitted: balloons, confetti, rice, birdseed, or flammable devices of any type. Releasing doves and butterflies is not permitted on our property. Bubbles are welcome. Floral arrangements are welcome and are the responsibility of the party renting the space.
Deposits: Are we able to reserve a date for my wedding without making a deposit?
Filberg Park has become a popular wedding and event venue. To ensure that your chosen date is secured, a contract and deposit are required.
Dogs: Are dogs allowed?
We do not allow any dogs or pets in the Park with the exception of certified assistant dogs.
Do we have exclusive use of the gardens during the ceremony?
Filberg Park, including the Filberg Lodge and Summer Kitchen, remains open to the public during ceremonies.
Inclement weather: What happens if it rains?
Filberg Park has no control over the weather and does not have interior space available for use if it rains. Two 10 x 10 tents can be rented and require notice in advance to ensure that we have staff available to set them up.
Music: Can we have Music?
Filberg Park is located in a residential area, so we need to obey the Town of Comox noise bylaws and respect the rights of our neighbours to enjoy their residence during your event. Soft music is acceptable, (e.g. Violin, Flute, Guitar or Harp) or soft canned music.
Parking: Where can our guest park?
Filberg Park has three accessible parking spots in the driveway located by the Filberg Lodge. All other guests will need to park along Comox Avenue and Filberg Road. We do have bicycle parking available throughout the Park (by Gate 1, by the Hands On Farm, and the lower parking lot by the Lodge). Absolutely no parking on the driveway of Filberg Park.
Photographs: Can we have access to the Park to take our photos?
Weddings and events can use any part of the Park for photos, but the Park will remain open to the public.
Rehearsals: When can we have our wedding rehearsal?
The Executive Director will schedule a time with the couple that works prior to your wedding. Rehearsals are normally scheduled one to two days prior to your wedding.
Smoking: Do you allow smoking on site?
There is no smoking of any kind allowed on the Filberg Park grounds.
Tables and Chairs: Does the Filberg Supply these?
Filberg Park will supply folding white chairs for wedding ceremonies, directional signs, and a table and signing bench as part of the basic contract. Additional tables are available for rent upon request. If renting the Rotary Stage, Filberg Park will provide white outdoor bucket chairs as part of the basic contract.
Washrooms: Are there washrooms on site?
Filberg Park has two sets of washrooms that are available for use. Two are located by the Cutting Garden in the Boathouse, and two are located by the Grape Arbour. All of our washrooms are accessible and have a concrete path leading up to them. There is a changing table in the women’s washroom located by the Grape Arbour.
